ELDER CARE

I often encounter a busy adult juggling the roles of parent for several children, spouse, and employee.  Then one of their parents dies (we’ll say dad for this example) and leaves the other parent to fend for themselves.  Suddenly, this busy adult has one more responsibility which is to help care for their widowed mother when it becomes apparent that her mother really depended on her deceased husband for all the shopping, paying bills, and driving. Some options to consider for the daughter would be …
1) Visiting Home Services

2) Sell House
- move to live with daughter

- move to Apartment/condominium

- move to Retirement Community

- move to Continuity Care Retirement Community

- move to Boarding House

- move to Adult Family Home

- move to Skilled Nursing Facility

She can work with the physician to determine what would be an appropriate living situation.  Other factors to consider include level of care (e.g. independent, custodial, intermediate, skilled), finances, presence of dementia, behavioral problems, and numerous medications.  Often working with a placement organization or social worker can prove invaluable.
