Introduction
Every 15 seconds, someone receives a head injury in the US. Every 5 minutes, one of these people will die and another will become permanently disabled. A survivor of traumatic brain injury (TBI) typically requires 5-10 years of intensive services at a cumulative mean cost of 4 million dollars. Traumatic brain injury includes concussions, contusions, sub-arachnoid hemorrhage, and diffuse axonal injury. TBI can produce an inability to control emotions (poor anger control), mood disorders (anxiety, depression), loss of smell, inattention, difficulty multi-tasking, and sleep disorders.
